29 mk's go to a local village

Can you imagine taking 29 kids anywhere? On this day, we took them all to a local village but split them into two groups. I went with the older group, so sorry, I don't have any pics. of the younger group. We had two women who took us around their big village and showed us many things. The pics. below will show you just some of the things we were able to see, touch, taste, and experience. I'm not sure if this village will ever be the same!

This is the older group of mk's at the village with Amai Kennedy.

We did a lot of walking because this is a big village.

These mk's had a chance to get the kernals off the maize.

This woman was shelling groundnuts. She stopped to offer the children some.

The mk's got to pound some groundnuts as well. Here, Gavin is taking a turn.

Update

In a previous post I mentioned that Pastor Lungu, one of our helpers during 40/40 was injured in a bike . A few days after I sent out that prayer request he died. Here is an update I received from a friend. "Pastor Lungu was a member of Bauleni Baptist Church from the early 80s. While he was serving as a deacon, the church recognized his spiritual gifts and recommended that he attend the Non-residential Pastors Training School at the Seminary. He not only completed his course, but he provided for his wife, Alice, to attend the women’s program of the Seminary for its three-year course. He was assisting with the 40/40 program last week. He was injured in a bicycle last Thursday when a man running from a swarm of bees struck the pastor as he was returning from his garden. He died Monday, leaving his wife, 7 children, a nephew and one grandchild who were in his care. Please pray for this family and the two church families as well as other friends. Pray also for the other man in the that he will know God’s purposes for his life. He has been released from the hospital."
Kevin and Ebby Musika was able to travel back to Lusaka for the burial. Please pray for this family as they deal with this sudden loss and that God would give them great comfort during this time.

Adventure City

Our last field trip with the kids was to Adventure City, a local water park. The weather was perfect and it wasn't too crowded. Only two injuries: a scraped foot and a knocked out tooth(I think it was all ready loose though) playing football.
I think I have failed to mention all of our volunteer teachers that are helping us this time. We have Becky, Johanna, Kym, Tracey, Bryce, and Steve working with all the kids. Each day they help them with their school work for a couple of hours, teach them a bible lesson, have a cultural lesson, play games, and make crafts. I don't know what we would do without all of these great helpers. We also have 5 nannies that keep the babies during the day while the parents are busy with their program.
Tomorrow we will all be shifting to Petauke to begin the bush camp phase of 40/40. Pray for us all to travel well and have good health. I'll be without internet while there so I'll update again in about 12 days.
Enjoy the pics.

Hannah went down the slide all by herself for the first time and just had KB catch her at the bottom. This was a big step for Hannah.

After returning back to the seminary a friend of mine asked me if I thought it was going to rain. I quickly said no because the rains have been finished for at least a month now. On my home it started sprinkling but quickly turned into rain. It then rained for the next couple of hours. It was weird and exciting all at the same time. This was very unusual weather for Zambia. It does show us that God is in control of our weather though. However, pray that it won't rain anymore or peoples crops will go bad. Their maize is drying now and if it gets wet it could be ruined.

Visitor

Yesterday all the kids visited two of our friends homes right there on the seminary campus. We split the kids up into two different groups. One group went to Bambo Piri's home and the other group went to Bambo Mbewe's home. I only have pics. from Bambo Mbewe's home though. He told them riddles and a story, taught them some african games, they got to look at his home, and try some groundnuts and african polony too. It looks like they had a good Zambian experience.

Random Pictures

I got the camera back out today and took some pics. to share with you guys. Everything is going well. There were a few not feeling too well but it seems they are all on the mend now. Please continue to pray for good health among our whole group.
Today was the last day that the participants went out with their helpers so we had a special good-bye time. It was neat to hear many of the participants share just how helpful their helpers had been and how much they had learned from them. Then several of the helpers shared too. There were several tears among the group. One of our helpers was in a bike accident yesterday and is now in ICU at the local hospital. Please pray for Pastor Lungu to recover from this terrible accident.
We also had a Zambian singing group come to sing for us for a little while. It was a lot of fun. I didn't any pics. of that because I had let the kids take the camera with them on their field trip to a Zambian's home. I'll try to post pics. of that tomorrow.
We finished the day off by having a big braii(cookout) and the food was delicious!

David H. taught everyone a method of sharing the gospel called Creation to Christ yesterday. Today after they went out David had a time of debriefing with the participants to hear how their time out went. Praise the Lord for the many people that prayed to receive Christ today. Pray for them to grow in their new life with Christ. Pray that each one would be followed up with by the helpers later.

This was during the time of saying bye to the helpers. They lined up at the front and then we all went by and shook their hands.

This is during the time of people sharing words of thanksgiving for their helpers.

Is he precious or what?

A trip to the taxidermist

For the first time during 40/40 we took the children to visit a taxidermist. We got to see the whole process of what they do when they get an animal skin. It is a much longer process than I ever imagined. It was very informative and fun. At the end of our tour the children were given a quiz to see how many animals they could recognize. They all did pretty well.
It was exciting to see that the Bormans had some live animals as well. We were all able to get really close to some Zebra and Ostrich.

The kids got to see and touch a crocodile that the taxidermist was working on.

This man was working on a Cape Buffalo.

The children got to see a giraffe skin that they were working on.

Look how close the children are to these Zebra.

Aren't Zebra beautiful animals?

The Bormans had two ostriches on their property too.

Justin and a couple of the other kids got to touch the ostrich.

This is the second graders in our group.

On the way home we stopped on the side of the road and bought some sugarcane. The kids enjoyed trying it.

April 28th, was Justin's 14th birthday. We celebrated that night with a delicious Choc. cake. How many kids can say they got to touch a ostrich on their birthday?? Not too many I'm sure.
