Visiting the Community School and Patients

One morning we went to Ng'ombe compound to visit patients with some palliative care givers.  Before we went out into the compound we visited a community school that my friend Esther helps run.  Each day they feed about 500 kids a bowl of porridge. For some children that might be the only meal they get all day.

This is just one of the huge pots of porridge.  They usually have two big pots to serve the kids.

Since most don't have spoons to bring they will use their pencils or rulers as a spoon.

Here is just part of the line of kids waiting to get some food.  The line wraps around the building.

We saw two different patients that day.  The first man we visited was very old probably in his 90's.  When we asked him how old he was he didn't remember the year he was born.  His son, who took care of him, died the week before.  Now he is all alone in a one room home trying to take care of himself.  He could hardly get around.
Our next visit was with the above family.  The girl smiling real big is HIV positive and has had a stroke.  Now, she no longer speaks and  can't move her right arm but just look at that smile!  Her mother(on the left) helps to take care of her.  The little girl in her lap is hers.  It has not been determined yet if she is HIV positive also.  Let us pray that she will be spared of this disease!
We visited with both patients and prayed for them before we left.  The care giver also gave them each a little money and some soy meal to help them out some.  They were so appreciative!

The next few pictures are some of the people we saw as we walked through the compound.

A lot of times kids this young are left on their own while their mothers work.

This is a game the kids play which is kind of like "jacks" except they use rocks and no ball.

Here are a couple of pictures back at the school of two of the classes.  They had about 5 classes going on at the same time.  Each class stood and greeted us.

Kids Ministry

One day I took Hannah, Zach, and Megan with me to Ng'ombe compound.  They taught the kids while I taught the women.  It is so neat to see young people do ministry!  Here are some pictures from that day.

This is inside the church/school that we meet.  Hannah is preparing the area for the kids to come in.

They ended up with about 30 kids that day.

They went outside and played games with the kids.

Breath of Heaven Orphanage

Today Me, Zach, Hannah, and Megan went to visit Breath of Heaven Orphanage.  Some friends of ours are helping to run this orphanage here in Lusaka.  They have done a tremendous job!  The orphans are healthy and well taken care of .  There are about 45 kids at this point but more will be coming.  The vision is God sized but we have a Big God!!

This 12 year old little girl made our lunch.  She made nshima, rape, and chicken.  It was delicious!

This was Megans first time to have a Zambian meal and she liked it!

Most of our time we helped several of the kids write letters to their sponsors.  This helped us to get to know some of these kids better.

A lot of the girls have learned to crochet and do a marvelous job.  They have made scarves, hats, and pocket books.

 writing letters

I could write a whole blog on this little guy.  He was running faster than I can and he only has one leg!  He was playing soccer with the other kids and if you didn't see he had a crutch you would have never known he was missing a leg.

 Amazing!

I hope to remember to think about this the next time I say, "I can't.....
Praise God that this little boy did not give up and has the attitude of, "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me!"

 Some of the girls crocheting.

We decided to a have a time of worship.  Aretta called all the kids together to worship.  I didn't hear any complaints or see any pouty faces.  They all eagerly came in.  When they started singing it was simply beautiful!
Zach played the guitar and Megan helped lead the singing.  Several of the older kids helped lead us in some Zambian choruses too!

This was a wonderful time of worship!

We played outside with the kids for a little while too.  The kids really seemed to enjoy jump roping.

 Megan joined in too!

These little boys really enjoyed Zach!

Me and Aretta had to show the kids that we could still jump rope.  I think we got up to 30 jumps in before we messed it up!

This is a game called, "Do like I do."

These little girls loved playing with Megans hair.

"Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world."  Praise God for Breath of Heaven Orphanage and the people who support it so that it can exist for these precious children!
