Where we stay

Many of you may wonder where we stay while we are in the States. There are many churches across America which have homes that they specifically use to host missionaries in while they are on their furlough.  We have been blessed for the last 17 years to always stay in the same home with the same church.  This time the church sold the house we usually stay in so we are staying in the other one.  They really worked hard getting it ready for us to stay in.  It is a beautiful home within walking distance of the church.  We are so blessed by this Church family!  We feel loved!

Let me just say that I love this porch!  I love having my QT out there each morning.
As I sit on the porch I love to watch the horses across the street.  It's so peaceful!

A few more weeks

While we are in the States for a few months our daughter, Hannah, is still in school until the end of her 10th grade year.  She will join us here in July.  Would you please pray that we will all do well with being apart? It's hard to be separated and so far apart.  She just has 6 weeks left of school.  Pray she will finish strong.

Each term she has a different roommate.  This term it is Katie.  I'm so thankful she has a fun roommate and one that she enjoys spending time with.

A special Mother's Day

I don't always get to see my kids or my mom on Mother's Day since we live in Africa.  This year I was able to have breakfast with my oldest son and his wife.  We enjoyed eating at Cracker Barrell.

Then we left Lynchburg and traveled to Elon to spend time with my Mom and Dad.
She fixed a lovely salad for lunch.  Then for dinner we had steaks on the grill.  It sure was good to enjoy her home cooking!

This is a hand woven wool rug I had made for her in Kenya.

I am blessed to have such a wonderful mother!

Justin Graduates!

May 13th the class of 2017 graduated from Liberty University.  It was an exciting day for our family because our middle son, Justin, was in that graduating class.  Because President Trump was going to be there the security was increased.  This meant that the traffic was pretty bad as well.  As we were waiting in this long line of traffic we could tell that we would never get a seat if we didn't get out and walk ahead to reserve seats.  So, me and Megan got out and walked to the stadium.  We found a place where we could reserve 10 seats but all around us filled up fast.  There was only one person who gave us a hard time and sat down anyway.  Eventually, everyone got there.  They had been delayed on the bridge for about 30 min as they were walking across because the motorcade was going across.
Thankfully, the rain stopped and the sun eventually came out and it was a beautiful day!

So thankful for family and friends who could come and celebrate with us!

There were record numbers in the stadium that day.  I don't think there was an empty seat and people were even sitting on the grass.

President Trump was the commencement speaker.  It was real exciting to hear a President speak in person.

graduating class of 2017

After the commencement was over we all dispersed to different parts of the campus for the graduates to receive their diploma.  Justin's group was in the new indoor track center.

He got there before it began so he was able to visit a little and give out hugs.

By the time it was all over we got back to Zach's apartment around 3:30.  We had a late lunch and he opened some presents before visitors needed to get on the road again.  We really appreciate all who came!

We enjoyed barbeque, slaw, potato salad, bread and greeen beans.

It was a great day!

Going to the States!

Against all odds and 3 1/2 hours of Nairobi traffic, and "creative" driving we actually made it on our STAS flight.  We didn't think we would make our 7:40 flight but after arriving at the airport at 7:05pm and running to our terminal we found everyone still sitting at the gate!  We actually got to sit for about 10 min before getting on the plane.
This picture was taking on the plane as we began our journey!
We'll be in the States until Mid-September!

Hand Woven Rugs for Mothers Day

Two weeks before we left Kenya I heard about a place that made hand woven wool rugs.  I went and loved seeing these men and women weaving these rugs.  They were so fast!  I picked out some colors and chose a design and had two made.  I had one made for my Mom and one for Kevin's Mom for Mother's Day. They got the sheeps wool and dyed it the colors I wanted. Then after it dried they started weaving the rugs.

This is Phyllis who is making my mom's rug.

This is Necate who made Kevin's mothers rug.

I got them just a few days before we left so I rolled them up and stuck them in a suitcase.

 They both really liked them!

We have two special mothers and I'm so glad we were able to see them both this weekend!
