Birthday fun

Kevin took me to a nice restaurant for my birthday. They cooked the food in front of us.  They even sang Happy Birthday to me.

Happy Birthday to Me!
Thanks Kevin for a great birthday celebration!

Thailand-Part 1

We traveled to Thailand for a meeting but decided to go to an island for a few days of vacation first. It was so relaxing and beautiful!

When the tide was low we walked along the rocks and found some caves.  They were amazing!

We couldn't stay too long because the tide was getting higher and we would have gotten stuck out there.

It was such a beautiful place!

We took a kayak out and went exploring.

to get to this place we had to take several different kinds of modes of transportation.  All an adventure though!

finally back to a van... then on to the airport.
We also enjoyed going out on the longboards.  I really like doing this especially when the water is a bit calm.

Beautiful sunsets are in Thailand too!

One day we took a boat to another area to explore.
No, I did not get a tattoo.

Kevin enjoyed this coconut ice cream served in a coconut!

Sure would love to go back to this place again.  Loved it!

Saying bye in Dar

We stayed in Dar es Salaam for about 7 months with only about 5 months of actual language study time.  We really did enjoy staying in Dar but studying language full time was difficult.  One thing that helped so much were the friends we made there.  These sweet people came alongside of us and helped us learn Kiswahili.   They were so patient with us!

We went to an actual school from 9-1 Monday-Friday.

We had several teachers at the school from time to time but Sai was our main teacher.  He is so good at what he does!

3 afternoons a week I would go to a local market to practice.

Before I left I made a cake and took it to the ladies to enjoy.  I wanted to thank them for all they did to help me.

Anna Maria has a shop in this market.  She was so encouraging along the way.  Some days I would be close to tears and she would always encourage me and tell me that I could do this.

 Some of my other friends

I sure miss my friends.  I look forward to the day I can go back and visit them!
