Recently, I went to visit some patients with a few of the caregivers that I have been working with. On this particular day we were able to give out 3 BGR buckets. If you do not know what this is you can see below. Basically, these are buckets filled with things that will help the patient feel more comfortable. These buckets are packed by Baptist Churches in America and sent to Africa. This young woman was so excited as we began taking out all of the things in the bucket. She couldn't stop smiling. She said, "I never would have dreamed I would receive such a great gift! Please tell the church in America who sent this gift, thank you!"
She received such things as a set of sheets and pillow cases, a mattress protector, vaseline, gloves, straws, socks, lip balm, toothpaste and a toothbrush.
She said, "When I got sick my friends from church stopped coming to visit me. I have been very lonely. Thank you for visiting me today and encouraging me with this gift. It will make me feel better."
There are still so many others that these caregivers work with who could benefit from this bucket ministry. If you are interested in helping to pack some buckets and sending them to Africa please see the website below for ways that you can help. The contents inside these buckets are making a difference in the lives of people in need. As we visit we try to encourage the families and give them hope by sharing Christ and praying for them. Please pray that these people whom we visit would accept Christ if they do not already know Him.
This is an excerpt from the BGR website:
"What is a Hospice Kit?"The BGR Hospice Kit is a compilation of medical and hygiene supplies to help those with terminal illnesses. Items in this kit will make the caregivers’ tasks much easier, but more importantly, will ease the suffering of the ones affected by the illness.
BGR’s Hospice Kit meets a profound need overseas, and humanitarian workers are asking for more of them than ever!
To date, more than 4,700 kits have been sent to South Africa, Zambia, Kenya, Uganda, Botswana, Lesotho, Mozambique, Guinea and Niger.
We have set a goal of 10,000 by the end of 2013. We’re going to really need your help to reach that goal!
By putting together at least one kit, you will help provide a physical and spiritual touch to those in sub-Saharan Africa who are dying from AIDS and other illnesses. Our local partners in Africa will distribute the buckets in a way that gives dignity and hope to each family receiving a kit.
